The Owners

Our names are Rene and Tom, and although originally from Indonesia and the UK respectively we have lived in many different locations around the world as far afield as Azerbaijan and Malaysia before finally giving up the corporate life and settling in Bali.

Tom is a fanatical diver which is what drew us first to Candi Dasa given its great location for diving in Bali and in particular the spectacular fish life on the wreck at Tulumben which is only 45 minutes from Villa Talia Vashti. Before committing to Villa Talia Vashti, Tom had to check out the snorkelling in front of the villa and spent a couple of hours snorkelling inside of the reef with a bemused agent wondering what on earth he was doing, and what flapping about in the sea could possibly have to do with building a villa.

Villa Talia Vashti was a dream for us that we never thought we would be able to realize, and we still have to pinch ourselves to believe it is really our villa when we stay here with our little daughters, which we try and do whenever we can. We hope that you enjoy our villa as much as we do.

Our Staff

It is our policy to support the local communities in which the villa is situated. As such all the staff working at the villa come from Mendira, which is the small village that you drove through on the way to villa. We hope to start further initiatives with the local villages in the future and will keep you updated on any progress.

Where does the name "Villa Talia Vashti" come from?

The villa is named after our little daughter Talia Vashti who was born just before we had the villa built. She is now 4 years old, and regularly asks why she cannot go and stay at "her" villa and we have to explain to her that "friends" want to stay at her villa. She says that that is OK.

In 2007 we were lucky enough to have a second daughter, Kalisha Leana. We realised though that we were now in trouble as as soon as Kalisha grew up she would realise that her sister had a villa and she did not. To avoid sibling arguments, at the end of 2007 we bought a second villa up near Ubud that we had loved from the moment we first visited it many years ago, and named it Villa Kalisha.
